Welcome to the Tidewater Area Musicians (TAM) A Proud Branch of the National Association of Negro Musicians, Inc. Since its founding in 1919, the National Association of Negro Musicians (NANM) has been a beacon for African-American musicians, educators, and students. With an initial $5 membership fee, NANM opened doors for music teachers and performers to share knowledge, attend workshops, and refine their craft. It also created life-changing opportunities for young, gifted students to compete for scholarships, connect with peers across the country, and learn from accomplished professionals. Among the earliest scholarship recipients was the legendary contralto, Marian Anderson.
